5 tips for surviving being a mompreneur (with little ones)
As a full time mom and full time business owner, you never know what curveball will be coming at you next!
Here are my 5 tips for surviving being a mompreneur (with little ones).
1. It takes a village and don't forget that!
Lean on your friends, family and network when you need it. Entrepreneurs can tend to be a bit type A, but the best thing you can do when it comes to balancing motherhood and work is to take the help. Have a friend hold your baby when they come over so you can have a free hand and say yes when someone offers to send a meal.
2. Join a mom group!
This was crucial for me. With my first son I was able to do this in person and with my second it was virtual and both were amazing. I learned from experts and made new friends. It was a safe space to talk about the challenges and even cry which is good to do every now and then. I'm also a member of Hey Mama which is a networking organization for working mothers at all stages of motherhood who are all so supportive.
3. As hard as it is, find the time for yourself.
Maybe it's workout class, or a manicure, maybe it's reading a book in the park or going to dinner with friends. If you can't take care of yourself it's tough to take care of your kids.
4. Know when to schedule and know when not too!
It took some time but I have become much more efficient with my work schedule. When scheduling meetings I'm very thoughtful as to how much time the meeting should take or how long a task should take and do my best to stay on track. This allows me to turn off my phone for a few hours around dinner and bedtime and be present, or know when I need to turn off the working brain and be the mom for my kids. This hasn't been easy but as I have learned, it has lifted a lot of stress.
